about
The Names series is a collection of pieces inspired by the meaning of people’s names. Every month I offer free entry into a random draw, where I choose one name to compose music around and gift it to the winner. This month’s name is CALEB—“faithful, devoted, whole-hearted, bold, brave”. To convey those sentiments I went with something warm and running…. a deep and mellow tone, swelling accompaniments notes, and chord choices that ultimately always resolve to the major even after passing through unexpected or strange moments.
The Caleb behind this piece is, in his own words, a “singer-songwriter and cat dad”. I have this to add: occasionally you meet people (on instagram, in this case) and even though you barely know them at all in the traditional sense, you sense a certain commonality…. I find this to be especially true with creative people; there’s something about having an affinity for the arts that is so instantly recognizable to fellow creatives. All that to say… this guy is a true artist.
I’ll be taking a break from this series for the next month or two as I’m moving states and have a new studio to build out! But you can sign up for free entry to the project at any point: annayarbrough.com/subscribe
